"2011 PHOTO CONTEST"
FIRST ANNUAL IWCC PHOTO CONTEST
Sully came to us after a two year period of not having a dog in our life, due to mourning the lost of our last collie
Shannon.  My husband thought it best not to get another dog.  I have always had a collie in my life since being a toddler
and the thought of never having another made me very sad.  One day while looking through the paper, I came upon an
ad for white collie pups.  I had always had sable rough collies before, and I really wanted to see the white collies.
Against my husbands better judgment, we went to see them.  On the way, he reminded me of all the reasons we should
not get another dog.  I said, I know, I just want to see them.  Well, you know what happened...love at first sight!  There
were two males eleven weeks old that caught my eye.  One was already spoken for and was being shipped to
Germany.  Pirate, (Sully's litter name) was going home with me!  I was so excited!

I like to start my dogs off with basic obedience, so off to puppy class we went.  We had a lot of fun and Sully learned
fast and seemed to love it.  He earned his certificate for Puppy Obedience Class. Next, he earned his Companion Dog
Certificate, then on to Rally Novice, where he earned the highest scoring dog in regular classes from the St. Louis
Collie Club. He also earned his certificate in Rally Advanced. I thought we were doing pretty well and I was enjoying it,
so I entered him in a Rally Obedience show out of town to continue with his titles, but this time Sully had a different idea.
He was tired of obedience.  When we got to the second station at this show, he walked off and would not come when
called!  I was so embarrassed!  They tell me sometimes collies get tired of doing the same thing over and over, and I
guess that was his way of saying "Mom I don't want to do this anymore".  So, we stopped obedience.

Not too long after that, our church started a K9 Ministry.  I thought this is something we can do together.  With his
obedience training he past the TDI (Therapy Dogs International) Certified Evaluation with no problem.  We have been
visiting through TDI since 2005.  We visit nursing homes and rehab centers. I work at an elementary school with special
needs children.  Occasionally, Sully visits there and the kids read to him.  One year at Christmas time, we took pictures
of Sully with his santa hat on sitting with each child. He was so patient with each of them.

Sully has a strong attachment to his beds and a big plush stuffed dog he likes to sleep on.  He lets you know in no
uncertain terms that he does not want you to move them!  He's so funny!  More than anything, Sully is my best friend
ever!  We fit together like a hand in glove.  You just got to love him!!!
