A tricolor Collie is being used in our examples below.

These tricolor dogs could be any of the colors, such as
sable, blue merle or sable merle.

The gene for white-factoring does not affect the color of the dog's
coat, except for producing a greater amount of white in the coat, if it
is present.
A White Collie bred to another White Collie
will produce a litter of White Collies.  The amount of white in the coat of
the resulting litter will vary from all white coats, to coats with patches of color on the body.
The head of all Collies, even White Collies, should be normally colored.  There may or may not be
white on the face, which is acceptable.  The coat color may be tricolor, like our examples here, or sable,
blue merle or sable merle.  The white gene does not affect the color of the dog, only the amount of white
in the coat.  There may be a lot of white, or just a little.
A White Collie bred to a non-white factored Collie
will produce only white-factored Collies.  All the puppies
in this litter will carry the gene for white factoring, but, none of the
puppies will be White Collies, and none will be non-white factored.
The puppies from this litter could produce White Collies if bred to a
White Collie or another white-factored Collie.
A White-factored Collie bred to a Collie that does not carry a gene for white-factoring
will produce both white-factored puppies and non white-factored puppies.
Approximately half of the puppies produced from this type of
breeding will carry the gene for white factoring.
A white-factored Collie bred to another white-factored Collie
will produce White Collie puppies, white-factored puppies
and non white-factored puppies.

Approximately two thirds of the puppies from this type
of breeding will carry the gene for white factoring.
