" Trefoil "
.
Foundation Collie
March 19, 1873 - ?
Trefoil was bred by Mr. S.E. Shirley.

He was tricolor in color, with long hair, a merry temperament
and attracted attention.

Trefoil can be traced back in the lines of many purebred collies today.
He is most well known for siring Ch. Charlemagne who first appeared
in the show ring in 1877 and went on to become a champion and make
a large impact on the modern day Collie.

Collie expert of the time, Hugt Dalziel, described him: "the champion of
his age, having authentic qualities of the collies".

Trefoil is said to be the first Collie with a recognizable pedigree.
