"Ch. Charlemagne", 1869-1879
Champion Charlemagne was by Trefoil (tricolor) out of Maude (sable & white),
a daughter of Old Cockie & Meg, sable and white.
There was grandeur about the appearance of this dog, aided by his bright color
and profuse coat, which was particularly attractive.
In the bloom of his juvenility, his head and expression
were pleasing; but there was just that indefinable
something which denoted that his features would early
deteriorate. On the occasion of his initial appearance in
public, he carried his ears all but erect -- hence his
position.
